The technologies that CIE uses in sulphate wastewater treatment guarantee one 98% reduction of sulphates. They also allow for significant decrease in consumption and energy costs. Sulphates are normally found in different concentrations in natural waters. In the aluminium industry the pollution by sulphates in water comes from washing the cans which takes place through the use of acid cleaners. The key to the overall system’s effectiveness is the use of the CIE patented PURAL process that combines both conventional physical chemistry with unique proprietary chemicals able to remove more than 80% of the sulphates. The overall system performance is able to deliver excellent water quality. Through the process that takes place using zld technology, CIE waste water treatments can reduce water pollution by eliminating sulphates by about 90 per cent. So the water treated in this way is pratically sulphates free and can be sent to the alkaline section to substitute 100 per cent fresh water. Thanks to sulphates wastewater treatments, through some special chemical-physical treatments and the use of chemical specialties, it is possible to break down the sulphates in the water and reach local limits that are so restrictive and different from country to country. Technology used in CIE systems is based on an advanced process that using specific chemical products, is able to absorb oil and wetting agents and to co-precipitate sulphates as total insoluble complex. However, if hard water contains a lot of sulfates, it will lower the quality of the surface treatment performed on metals. Then, water with high salinity and conductivity should always be pretreated before being used for surface treatment of metals.
